Declaring a New State

It’s been a year now since I returned from my long trip. My life has changed dramatically since then. In ways, I would not have expected it myself.

I’ve been following the lives of people on Facebook. Sometimes with slight jealousy, but mostly with joy I looked at their photos while they continued to visit places. I kept chatting with people on all continents.

I’ve been to a stag weekend and to a wedding of a couple I met during my travels. What a great honour. And great fun.

I’ve visited a bunch of people I met while travelling and connecting up is joyful, really.

I started developing my book that has gone on hold since I returned to my old work and collegues and friends in Erlangen. Driving 400km each week is a little bit annoying, but it is well paid. And sometimes it’s fun, too.

And finally: I met my new girl friend in January and our relationship is worth stopping the backpacking and settling down. At least for some years. There are more surprises in the queue. Sometimes you have to let go of your dreams and plans to just see the impossible happening.

There is never enough time. The more people you know, the harder it gets. No evil is behind my inability to keep up with everybody. I still want to change the world, not sure how I can fit it in my daily schedule, however. To be honest. I’m feeling a bit older now.

Did going to those places help understand the world as it was, as it is now, and what might follow? Yes, of course.

Did I do enough to save the world for the next generations? Probably not.

But still: I am a happy man.

Thanks for reading. Now go outside and experience the world yourself.
