This blog has been massively neglected in the last three months. I haven’t been up to writing about the bonus trip to Madagascar or about my experiences of coming back. No epilogue yet. Nor the prologue of what I am about to do now. I know, my trip around the world is finished, it’s over, so nothing more to write about? If it was that easy.

Uhm. Ever heard of out-of-order-execution? Well… I still need to write down the stuff, but I can’t rewind time. Unfortunately. But I need to put out the word of what’s going on now otherwise it will make this even more a mess than it is.

Let’s start.

This is the story of a short vacation. A trip back to South America. A journey back to places I’ve been and new places. A lot of new places. Beautiful. Serene. Pristine. And not alone but with a friend, Axel.

Actually, it’s Axel’s fault that I’m again on the road for a month, escaping the dreaded wintertime in Germany. He had to use up some vacation before March, so our decision was between South Africa and South America. In the end, the latter won. Specifically the very south part of the continent shared between Chile and Argentina, called Patagonia or Tierra del Fuego.

We have left Munich on the evening of January, 29th and will be back on March 1st. However, missing out on the delicious Krapfens before carneval is a big downer (we weren’t able to find them at the airport yesterday). But this not the only thing that I left behind that my heart feel like a bucket bleeding the holy grail of love.

The first stop is Santiago de Chile where we will enjoy happy sunshine and 31 deg C for a day to breathe before flying to the very south to Punta Arenas, slightly colder with around 15 deg C. From there we will head up to Puerto Natales and the famous Torres del Paine national park, then further up to El Calafate and some more glaciers. And from there… who knows. Too many options. “No, not through with it yet, it’s a big decision.” (Elliott Smith) Watch the lines and dots on the map below as they come into view.

It is great to do some travelling again and see the places I had missed out the last time (sounds funny to me, it’s “only” been eight months since I first visited and left Chile). It’s great to have company. And it’s great to have a reason to return home, too.
