Flight of the antilopes

This is gonna be a short one. The reason why we stopped by Page on our way to the Grand Canyon was the supposingly beautiful Antilope Canyon. Again placed on American Natives land, they want you to buy a “day pass” for 6 USD per person. Fair enough. But then for an one hour tour they would charge a whoppin’ 40 USD. Per person. To make it short: While the beam of light breaking through the colourful walls of the canyon is absolutely amazing, it was such a mass orgy that most of the time our group of fourteen people would wait for others to push through.

The tour guide was a pain in the ass most of the time. I got quite angry because she didn’t let us take the photos the other groups had gotten — and she didn’t provide any useful information. And then, there is always one idiot in the group that is reckless and spoils it for everyone. For example, when we all stood in a half-circle pressed to the walls for a special photo, that dude would push forward and stand in the middle of all other people with his stupid iPhone camera (completely useless with the light conditions there…).

Enjoy the photos, it was a stressful, unpleasant job, and a complete tourist rip-off too. Don’t go there.

PS: I went to the movie Samsara in Glasgow yesterday (05-Sep-12) and it had some amazing footage of the Antilope Canyon, too 🙂
